It simultaneously comes across as praising and criticising the actual behaviour of the characters as their constant escapades have increasingly severe and absurd consequences.
The movie ultimately never quite delivers, but it's undoubtedly unique. Lars von Trier is a naughty genius. I wish there were more opportunities to get to know each character because as it is only a few of the dominant members stand out.
That was a frustration because their varying levels of cohesion and their relationships with each other are the core of the film. The justifications for the very un-PC premise and language are within the film.
Needless to say, I've fallen behind schedule on my resolution to review Lars von Trier's filmography before the end of the year.

I watched The Kingdom Part 1 way back in the day and if I remember correctly that was also created with Dogme 95 conditions. Perhaps not so efficient in narrative terms as The Celebration, but it articulates more layers of reflection than the debut of Dogma That is why the reviews I read here seem to be a reductionism, limiting the film to be just a "criticism of the bourgeoisie".
To attribute this idea to Lars von Trier is to ignore his history, since, despite having a traditionally left-wing creation, he was always skeptical about some of the aspects of the ideology that dominates the hard core of this group.
